With so many dental products lining the shelves, it can be a challenge to know what’s truly best for your child. Our thoughts? Keep it simple, kid-friendly, and tailored to support healthy habits from the start.
The Best Toothbrush for Kids
Look for a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head that fits comfortably in your child’s mouth. For toddlers and young children, handles with a non-slip grip are great for little hands. Electric toothbrushes can be a fun upgrade for older kids, especially if they resist brushing—many models play music or light up to make things more fun. Just make sure it’s designed for their age group.
Floss That’s Kid-Friendly
Flossing can be tricky at first, but it’s so important once teeth start to touch. Floss picks or flossers designed for kids make things easier to handle and often come in bright colours or fun shapes. For children with braces, a floss threader or water flosser may help get into those hard-to-reach spots. Practise together until they get the hang of it—it’s a great way to build confidence.
Choosing the Right Toothpaste
Always select a fluoride toothpaste for kids unless your dentist advises otherwise. For children under three, use just a smear (about the size of a grain of rice). Over age three, you can increase to a pea-sized amount. Let your child choose the flavour—they’ll be more excited to brush if it tastes like bubblegum or strawberries instead of strong mint.
